I am told by my clients who have had therapy before that I offer a different experience. I hear that their previous therapists were "really, really nice" but nothing much changed for them, and there wasn't enough feedback given to them. Well, I will be really, really nice AND serve as an agent of change to help you. Most often, when people go into therapy, they are in pain and feel frustrated. Developing insight is an ideal goal, but so is the diminishment of pain. There is also much to be said for having someone bear witness to your thoughts, feelings, predicaments, and worries. Being listened to, understood, and believed are all fundamental needs. But these intense needs are often sparsely met by others; if at all.
Our Private Conversations
Throughout our private conversations during your therapy sessions, I will find previously undiscovered inroads and angles. While doing this, I will also serve as a calming and motivating force. Listening intently, I will guide your sessions according to your distinct personality, goals, interests, history, and evolving desires.
Working creatively, warmly, and sometimes humorously throughout your therapy sessions, I will provide you with strong feedback and structure, if we find that works well for you. I take into consideration the cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic context of your life; using a consistent holistic approach.
