In order to keep from freaking out about the seeming enormity of beginning therapy, you can conceptualize it as a process of inquiry, familiarization, or even an experiment. Accordingly, you can meet two or three therapists and see who you like the most. This does not include promises that might be made to you re: guaranteed results. The #1 consideration for choosing a therapist is: ” Do I feel that I am in the presence of wisdom?” This is, of course, not easy to ascertain, but is often discernible with intuitive consideration.

The ethics of offering free introductory sessions is questionable. People offering these should not be considered your best bet for treatment. They probably need your business more than you need their services.
